"Traditional" Double-Action, Semi-Automatic
9mm Parabellum (a.k.a. 9x19 or 9mm Luger)

The all-stainless steel Smith & Wesson 5906 is a ruggedly built, "traditional" double action semi automatic pistol. It has a slide-mounted
ambidextrous safety/decocking lever, as well as a magazine disconnect that prevents the pistol from firing if the magazine is ejected. These
safety features made the 5906 popular with law enforcement. It was the standard issue for the Los Angeles PD, and one of three approved
pistols for the NYPD. It was gradually phased out in favor of lighter polymer framed guns beginning in the early 2000s.
